Benchmark of cross-brand campaigns between airlines and entertainment studios, and definition of the creative territory
We designed a brand partnership between Air Europa and Illumination for the world premiere of "Minions & Monsters." An end-to-end brand activation: cabin identity, themed amenities, content across every channel, and an exclusive onboard premiere within the inflight entertainment, timed to the film's global release in 2026.
The challenge: two brands with almost opposite audiences, and just one shot at making the partnership feel genuine. Family-focused airline campaigns tend to all look alike — lots of branding, not much real fun, and rarely anything actually worth sharing. The challenge wasn't just entertainment: it was protecting Air Europa's premium image while opening it up to a much younger audience, without the partnership feeling forced for either brand.
The goal: turn an ordinary flight into a brand event. Content with a genuine intent to spark the urge to travel, and an onboard experience connecting inflight entertainment with the film's global premiere, all under one narrative.
The idea started with a simple question: what can an airline offer that no movie theater on Earth can match? The answer was altitude. Turning the plane into the first place on the planet to watch the premiere of "Minions & Monsters" — before any theater on the ground — became the creative territory that carried the whole campaign: the onboard experience, the themed amenities, the brand communication, and the content on every channel, all built around a single insight. You saw it here first.
The visual backbone of the campaign: the Minions brought to the destinations and moments that best represent the brand.
One piece for every touchpoint of the journey, so the brand accompanies the passenger from start to finish.
The result was a complete campaign system: visual identity adapted from the film's aesthetic to Air Europa's brand language, native pieces for every social channel, themed cabin amenities, and the exclusive premiere of "Minions & Monsters" as part of the inflight entertainment, timed to the film's global release.
